We honor the herbalists and healers of the 1940s and 50s who converged on Idlewild for the safety and sanctuary of African Americans who could not find solace in segregated resort like spaces in the United States.
We are rooted in historic Idlewild, MI. Our purpose is to preserve Idlewild’s rich legacy of Black arts, culture and innovation by fostering spaces where radical, visionary collaboration, rooted in history can thrive.
We collaborate with Petty Propolis to organize an annual art festival convening artists, organizers, herbalists, innovators, educators and historians who honor the legacy of historic Idlewild, Michigan.
We teach literary workshops and study the history of Idlewild through published contributions such as, Home Sweet Sanctuary: Idlewild Families Celebrate a Century, as well as by honoring community stories.
